8/18/13- How do I know what I think until I see what I write?

THE LEARNING LOG

“How do I know what I think until I see what I write?”

To get the most out of your class, you should write about what you did, what you learned, and what questions you want more information about.  This type of writing is an excellent way to prepare for exams and papers because it helps you use writing to discover and clarify ideas. For classes where you can’t take notes easily, writing reflections as soon as possible after class will help you get much more out of the class.

So, welcome to our blog spot for your 7th grade English/Language Arts class for 2013-2014. We will be using this site as a blog spot for our weekly Learning Logs. I'm not sure about you, but I have never "blogged" before, and I am looking forward to you guys creating your own on-line style journal that you are more than welcome to share!

Your blogs each week are going to be made up of several parts- Remember, this is a school blog, not a personal site:

Part1:
The title of your blog should be the date & Essential Question for the week (always posted on the board).

Part 2:
Your response should be written in formal style paragraph/s. You need a minimum of 100 words to get credit for the blog..100 words is about 10 good sentences with details.
The response should tell how the assignments (we worked on this week) relate to the EQ.
I will assign you a "prompt," in which to respond:

a.      What did I find interesting in English Class this week? Why?

b.      How does the material this week connect to something I already know?

c.       How could the assignments this week help me in the future?

d.      Can the lessons we learned this week be useful in the real world? How?

e.       An important activity I was involved in today/recently was…and it affected my learning by…

f.        Something I’m still confused about is…because…

g.      One thing I’d like to know (or think) more about is…because…

h.      I think my teacher had us do…because…

i.        I can relate what I learned today/recently and what I learned in another class by…

j.        What I learned today/recently will help me because…

k.      The video I watched related to the course in the following way…

l.        By taking today’s (or the recent) test, I learned…

m.    The most important idea I got from the discussion was…and I can use it to…

Part 3:
WRITING-INQUIRY-COLLABORATION-ORGANIZATON-READING
The last part of your blog should be the acronym WICOR, written one letter below each other. For each letter, tell one thing we did this week in class to cover that letter.
EX:
W- We did a 3-2-1 Quick Write over our library book chapters we read: 3 parts of the plot, 2 characters involved, 1 connection I made.
I- We learned how to form Higher Order Questions and will always create them for our Cornell notes.
C- We collaborated to create our visual aides for the Reading Process, and then each of us presented.
O-We set up our INBs and began assignments.
R- We marked the text in "Why Dentists Should Fear Snails." We also got to read our library book.
